Fellows

  Fellow

The Pediatric Critical Care Medicine program maintains 6 to 10 trainees at the fellowship level. These physicians have already completed their residency training in pediatrics and are pursuing subspecialty training in critical care. For most this is a 3 year commitment, although some pursue advanced training through multiple tracks, such as cardiology and health services research, extending their training by a few more years. Day to day medical operations in the ICU are managed by the on-service fellows who triage admissions, evaluate seriously ill children in the emergency department, and lead the rapid response and code teams for deteriorating inpatients. The fellows supervise the residents and medical students during their rotations through the Pediatric ICU. The fellows, in turn, are supervised by the attending faculty.

Nurse Practitioners

  NP

The Mott PICU Nurse Practitioner Program was begun in 2007. Our very own longstanding PICU bedside nurse, Janella Reske, was the founding member. The program has grown its ranks to six, recruiting nursing expertise from diverse acute care settings. The nurse practitioners are integrated team members, practicing shoulder-to-shoulder with physician counterparts. In addition to providing vital direct patient care to all types of PICU patients, they are also an outstanding educational resource for rotating residents and beginning fellows, and provide valuable continuity with their 7-days-a-week, 365 days-a-year presence on the unit. Nurse practitioners in the Mott PICU are also actively engaged in patient safety and quality improvement activities.
